I received a gift card to a day spa that is now closed,what can i do?

Received it for valentines day from my guy. He drove by a week after purchasing it & they were closed with a lease sign & eviction paper on the door.
If he bought it with a credit card, it is likely that he can get a refund from the credit card company if he calls and asks for help. If they folded within a week of selling the gift certificate it could be claimed that their actions were fraudulent since they already knew they would not stay in business.
