2 Carnival Splendor Passing under the Great Belt BridgeThis is the bridge between the Danish islands of
Zealand and Funen across the Great Belt.
We went under it during our cruise on the Carnival
Splendor’s 2nd voyage. Sail date July 25, 2008

You can hear the cheers from the people just
above our deck (Spa-11) as we go under.
It sure seemed close!

Here is a link to info on the bridge.

I wish I was there for that one…
I’m sure the tides become a major
    factor at these heights!

    i think you are …
i think you are right about that…just look at the ship you were on, it nearly touched the brigde, and is not a low one, because the road is ca. 75 meters above the surfase….they can only go under the brigde when the tide is low

    I didn’t know it …
I didn’t know it was a clearance issue.

I’m thinking that cruise ships aren’t going to be able to get much bigger due to the world around them…

    You are right. The …
You are right. The Oresund does not have enough clearance for the Splendor.

  8. w7mag says:

    That is what I …
That is what I first thought however,
my GPS showed Denmark land masses on the port and starboard sides of the ship and a quick check on the net shows the tower designs to be that of the Great Belt Bridge. The waypoint I pinned agrees with that finding.
The Oresund Bridge has a different design to the cable support towers as well as being a cable stayed design where as the Great Belt Bridge is of suspension design.

Check it out and let me know what you find.

    Appreciate the comment!

    Should’t it be the …
Should’t it be the Oresund Bridge that the Splendor passed under to go into the Baltic Sea.
